Standard 3: Teachers understand that children learn differently.
The teacher understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities.

Evidence: Wiki about various Web 2.0 and 3.0 tools from EDT 654 Educational Telecommunications

Rationale: During the EDT 654 Educational Telecommunications class, my cohort developed a wiki where we addressed multiple topics like the history of the web, online safety, online education, emerging technologies and ways to adapt the web for students with disabilities and exceptionalities. This was a great learning experience for me as an educator because I had never really had a chance to stop and investigate these topics. I worked with two other educators, Deb Norton, a fifth grade teacher, and Catherine Wood, a high school Spanish teacher, and we compiling the information for the “Emerging Technologies” section which can be found at http://appleton12.wikispaces.com/Emerging+Technologies. As a result of this assignment I have become much more familiar with Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 tools and have been able to bring these ideas back into my classroom and help students to overcome barriers to their learning and adapt instruction to meet their diverse needs. These tools and the information I’ve learned from the other sections of the wiki have helped me to provide the best possible learning experiences for my students.

KSD
3.K.1 The teacher understands and can identify differences in approaches to learning and performance, including different learning styles, multiple intelligences, and performance modes, and can design instruction that helps use students’ strengths as the basis for growth.
Through the knowledge of various Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 tools, I can assess the level of abilities and learning styles of my individual students and then match them to the best use of their skills and strengths when designing instruction. The Web tools will draw them in motivationally and then finding success at their level of ability will give them the confidence to continue working and challenge themselves.

3.S.1 The teacher identifies and designs instruction appropriate to students’ stages of development, learning styles, strengths, and needs.
Setting the baseline for my students will be an important process. I will need to get to know my students skill level initially through observation, trial and error, and self-reporting. Then once I have identified their level of development, learning styles, strengths and needs I will be able to match them to the activity that will best challenge them while allowing for success.

3.D.1 The teacher believes that all children can learn at high levels and persists in helping all children achieve success.
I feel very strongly that students will live up to the expectations you have of them. Setting realistic expectations and goals will motivate students to achieve. I will model the Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 tools whenever possible and then set the students up to experiment and overcome challenges in order to find success in the activities.
